World News: Mountain Biking

This is mountain biking but on snow …

56-year-old Frenchman, Eric Barone, nicknamed the ‘red baron’ has thrashed the world speed record riding on a mountain bike, on snow! I used the word ‘thrashed’ because his previous record lay at 2.5 MPH. The new record is over 141 MPH …how could he get soooo much faster? It’s mystified me anyway!!

World News: The turtle who ate 1000 coins.

The turtle who ate 1000 coins.

The name of this turtle is Bank. Get it? (He he he!) But enough with the jokes, this turtle was in agonising pain -  its stomach was weighed down and its shell was cracking open. I know what you’re thinking how would she eat coins? Well the people would throw coins into her pond and she would start to eat them. But luckily the vets saw this and did an operation on her and removed all the coins and she is well, but a little less rich.

World News: Go Fetch!

‘Go fetch’

At the Brazil Open tennis tournament in Sao Paulo six hot dogs have been being trained to be ball boys (people who run on and catch loose tennis balls). And while this is all well and good the cool thing is that all of the dogs have come from an animal shelter and are trying to make money and to make people adopt the dogs to help charity.

Backpack boy

Backpack boy helps fight pollution

14-year-old Logan has been helping scientists by walking in Leicester with a special air monitoring device in his back-pack. The results of the monitor go to scientists who take the results and see if they can make it better. If you liked this post and want to know more about pollution, then I would suggest checking out Maxes post about how pigeons are helping out the environment.

Pigeons fight pollution!

How pigeons are helping to fight air pollution?

I know, when I heard this I thought this was a joke. But it is not. The pigeons have been flying over the roads so a scientist took the opportunity to monitor the air pollution. I know what you’re thinking. How? What they do is attach a small monitor on to the pigeon's back and when it starts fly it will look look at the smoke produced by cars. Let’s hope it will change something.
