It was soon discovered that a large tree branch had become stuck under the radial gate by the south bank which usually restricts water flow so the River Avon cascades down the weir.
A team from the Environment Agency, which maintains the gate, partially opened it in an effort to remove the branch but this was unsuccessful.

Around 150 protesters sang "we love our library" as they gathered to oppose a plan to move Bath Central Library.

The demonstration on Saturday morning (January 14) outside the library's current home in The Podium featured a colourful display of banners and placards.
Library employees and volunteers were joined by parents, children and some councillors for the demonstration.

Bath and North East Somerset Council has proposed moving the current facility above Waitrose into Lewis House on Manvers Street by next year, with the space to be rented out for other means.
